Hello everyone,
Like the subject of my post says, I'm a 33 year old in Lexington, Kentucky. I'm attending the University of Kentucky and majoring in Geology. Creative writing is something I've been told I do well. It is something I like to do, but I've understood for a long time that earning a living at it is a great challenge. Many have the skill to succeed, few have the luck. (But let's not allow that hold us back, shall we?)
As for my writing, I generally don't do character development. I approach characters as if they are people I have just met. If they remain casual acquaintances, I don't bother asking personal backgrounds. However, if they're characters that are going to be returning, I let their reactions to each other and their situations reveal who they are.
Some of my favorite writers are, in no particular order; Piers Anthony, Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, Ursula LeGuin, J. R. R. Tolkien, and Kurt Vonnegut. Of all these writers, Kurt Vonnegut’s style is closest to the one I developed on my own. (Read a book called Hocus Pocus, and you’ll get an idea of how my writing progresses…If you can call it a progression in any traditional sense.)
